Sound Installation

Ambient sound atmospheres of the cities, it’s hidden in our minds because we usually hear it, it becomes familiar, and we did not care about it, the ambient sound levels are often measured in order to map sound conditions over a spatial regime to understand their variation with locale, or roadway noise is measured as ambient sound, prior to introducing a hypothetical noise barrier intended to reduce that ambient noise level, we hear the change, that is not natural, that’s noise and rage.

Discovering the sounds of the cities, you will find the various sounds, depending on the society.
the kind of this city, populations, agricultural, industrial, or even in the capital that talk about the country, the sound of the cities change from time to time.

I choose my town, where I was born, a small old town in the center of Cairo, where you find equitable socio, religious, social, and political diversity.

This project is shown in two phases, the first one is a sound map, hanging from the ceiling of plastic Water Pipes used in the infrastructure of water networks in Cairo. I've worked on a map of fourteen houses in the street where I live and turned points the house on the map into speakers.

Through 39 speakers; you listen to 39 layers of sound I recorded most of the neighbors' houses and the streets, walking under this sound map you listen to the diversity of the soul in a small area in Cairo, you hear secrets, prayer, sadness, love, music and rest.

Constantine, Algeria 2014

Friday Market, I went to the biggest flea market in Cairo, I bought photographs that date back to the period between  1950 to 1960 in Cairo. Most of those photographers took place in the same old city where I was born and lived; The photos show the social aspect of Egyptian society in this period, including weddings, parks, resorts, and social gatherings.

I transfer the photos into soundtracks, I built a miniature metal structure of 14 houses in the area where I was born, each small metal object in a building that includes a speaker for a sound of a photograph.

Playing with the sound of the photographers, starting my journey of listening to photography.
